4-Year-Old Girl Dies During Hurricane Helene

A tragic incident during Hurricane Helene claimed the life of 4-year-old Luna Jade Gaddis in Catawba County, North Carolina, on September 26. Heavy rains caused by Hurricane Helene led to dangerous driving conditions, resulting in a fatal car accident.

Luna was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her mother, Lyndsey Nicole Gaddis, when their car veered into the opposite lane, crashing head-on with another vehicle. Sadly, Luna died at the scene, while her mother survived with minor injuries. A 12-year-old in the car suffered critical injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Tiffany Miner Sipe, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, a 2-year-old passenger was critically hurt, and another 4-year-old passenger was hospitalized but stable.

Authorities stated that impairment was not a factor in the crash, but charges may follow pending further investigation. Hurricane Helene’s destruction left multiple fatalities across the Southeast.

Luna’s death has deeply affected her community, with her grandmother calling her a “gift from God” and fondly remembering her bright smile. Luna enjoyed outdoor activities, spending time with her brother, and participating in pageants.

A funeral service will be held to honor Luna’s memory, with many already sharing their condolences on social media, remembering her as a loving child with an infectious joy for life.
